Pimco CEO: Data Center Financing Is Where the Opportunity Is

May 5, 2026·3 min read·ChartOdds

Pimco is moving on data center debt. CEO Emmanuel Roman made that clear at the Milken Institute Global Conference in Beverly Hills. "There's a lot of attractive opportunity to invest," he said. No qualifiers. No hedging.

Roman was speaking specifically about data center financing and the firm's debt deal pipeline. Pimco manages over $2 trillion in assets. When that firm signals active deal flow in a sector, it's not positioning. It's execution already in motion.

Why Data Centers

The demand side is simple. AI infrastructure requires power, cooling, and connectivity at scale. That build-out is capital-intensive. Equity alone doesn't cover it. Structured debt, construction loans, and long-term credit facilities fill the gap.

Data center assets fit the profile Pimco targets in private credit: long-duration, predictable cash flows, institutional-grade counterparties. The risk-adjusted return looks attractive compared to traditional fixed income right now.

The Pipeline Signal

When asset managers mention pipelines at conferences like Milken, they're talking to multiple audiences at once. LPs. Co-investors. Counterparties. It's a signal that transactions are in process, not just under consideration.

Expect deal announcements to follow. The window is likely the next one to two quarters.

What This Means for Traders

  • Private credit flowing into data centers is a structural tailwind for REITs and infrastructure operators in the space. The financing has to attach to something.
  • Pimco's positioning reflects broader institutional consensus. They are rarely early and rarely wrong on deal timing.
  • ChartOdds earnings data on data center REITs can show whether the underlying fundamentals actually support the capital influx or if the narrative is running ahead of the numbers.
